Chapter 5, Verse 18

विद्याविनयसम्पन्ने ब्राह्मणे गवि हस्तिनि । शुनि चैव श्वपाके च पण्डिताः समदर्शिनः ॥

Translation

The truly learned see with equal vision a wise, humble scholar, a cow, an elephant, a dog, and even one considered an outcast.

Explanation

This verse deliberately lists a wide, jarring range of beings — high-status and low-status, human and animal — to make a single point: the deepest kind of seeing looks past the surface categories a society uses to rank things and notices something more fundamental shared beneath all of them.

Reflect

Whose surface category might be quietly shaping how much attention or respect you give them today?
