भूमिरापोऽनलो वायुः खं मनो बुद्धिरेव च । अहङ्कार इतीयं मे भिन्ना प्रकृतिरष्टधा ॥
Translation
Earth, water, fire, air, space, mind, intellect, and ego — these eight together form my divided material nature.
Explanation
The list moves deliberately from the most tangible elements to the least — earth and water first, ego last — suggesting that what feels most solid and 'real' about experience (physical matter) and what feels most intangible (a sense of self) belong to the same continuum, not two entirely separate categories.
