Chapter 8, Verse 6

यं यं वापि स्मरन्भावं त्यजत्यन्ते कलेवरम् । तं तमेवैति कौन्तेय सदा तद्भावभावितः ॥

Translation

Whatever state of being a person remembers when they leave the body, that state they attain — because that is what they have constantly dwelled on.

Explanation

Read less literally, this describes something observable well before any final moment: whatever a mind returns to habitually tends to shape where it ends up, moment by moment, not just at the very end of life. Today's small, repeated mental habits are quietly determining tomorrow's default state of mind.

Reflect

What has your mind been returning to by habit today, without you fully choosing it?
